Scaler Deck, G2, Encapsulated, Vanguard
Object Details
- Summary
- This is an encapsulated University of Iowa payload component for Vanguard. This Deck G2 with electronics was associated with the tape recorder. This layout was changed a bit for Explorers II and III to accomodate the change in location of the tape recorder, tuning fork, and relays along the spin axis because of the higher spin rate of the Jupiter C relative to the Vanguard launch vehicle. These are components from a payload inventory originally intended for the University of Iowa packages to be flown on Vanguard and the early Explorer satellites. It was In George Ludwig's possession since they were built in the late 1950s. Donated by Dr. George Ludwig in 2006.
