The Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. Eleven museums are located along the National Mall in Washington, D.C., six others and the Smithsonian’s National Zoo are nearby, two are in New York City, and two more are in the works.
Admission
Admission is free at all Smithsonian museums except the Cooper Hewitt in New York City.
Most museums are open every day of the year except December 25. The Cooper Hewitt in New York is open every day except Thanksgiving and December 25.

Four museums require free entry passes or tickets:

All other locations do not use passes/tickets for general admission.
Smithsonian museums on and near the National Mall will be closed on January 20, 2025, due to security, road closures, and other restrictions for the Presidential Inauguration. The Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery will be closed January 19–20.
