- Artist
- Frank Yee
- Caption
- The grain of the chestnut wood radiates from the center of the carved face in this sculpture of a human head. Broad carving tool marks create texture in the figure’s hair, swept to the left, as well as in the negative spaces at the back of the work.
- In 1951 this sculpture by Frank Yee was awarded an honorable mention at the Corcoran’s Fifth Annual Area Exhibition, which showcased the artwork of local artists. Later, the Corcoran purchased five works from the exhibit for their permanent collection including Yee’s Head No. 1.
