- Description
- Landscape and architectural sketch showing a view of an ancient colonnade at sunset, likely near Damascus, Syria. The standing colonnade is made up of three Corinthian columns supporting a ruinous entablature. They catch the pinkish peach light of the setting sun. Columns are situated beside a small, arched stone bridge visible at center. A small figure is visible in the foreground at lower center. In the middle distance, a green, rolling landscape extends toward a hazy and indefinite horizon. The moon begins to rise in a twilight sky characterized by pink clouds and a yellow-aquamarine gradient.
