Summary
The memorial is topped with a standing figure of a Civil War soldier holding his rifle in front of him with both hands, proper left hand over proper right hand. The butt of the rifle rests on the ground by his proper right foot. He has a moustache and wears a belted knee-length coat with a short cape over his shoulders. On his head he wears a small cap. A small, square pouch is attached to his belt on his back proper right side. The soldier rests at the top of a tall base adorned around the top with reliefs of military emblems encircled with wreaths and flanked with garlands. Below the emblems on the front of the base is a relief of an eagle perched on two crossed cannons. Below the cannons is a pile of cannon balls and an unfurled United States flag. Below the flag is a large star. On the left side of the base is a relief of two crossed rifles surrounded by a wreath. On the right side of the base is a relief of an eagle with wings spread, perched on a shield. Two flags extended from each side of the shield.
