Object Details
- Honoree
- Owney, American, c. 1888 - 1897
- Description
- Owney received this identification token from Robert R. Waugh. The token identifies the Bunker Hill Car House in Boston, Massachusetts. The car house belonged to the West End Street Railroad company, which operated a mail streetcar in Boston. There is no information to indicate when Owney received the token, he visited Boston so often that the city’s postal workers considered him to belong to them almost as much as he belonged to the Albany post office. In some areas, city’s mail streetcars were manned with clerks re-assigned from Railway Mail Service train cars.
