- Descriptive Entry
- This accession consists of exhibition records created by Carolyn Kinder Carr, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, National Portrait Gallery (NPG), in the course of her work on the exhibition, Hans Namuth: Portraits. This exhibition explored the forty-year career of Namuth as he photographed America's leading painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, and architects. Of note are photocopies of original Hans Namuth letters and their translations, some of which are of originals which have apparently been lost; compilations of photocopies of Namuth images found in magazines, some of which reveal variations in sittings that are not reflected in NPG holdings; and microcasette tapes of interviews of individuals who knew Namuth conducted by Carr. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, photocopies of photographs and articles, photocopies of manuscript materials, research notes, clippings, color photographs and transparencies, transcripts of interviews, exhibition brochures, audiotapes, and other related materials. Some materials are in electronic format.
