- The drawings were given to Bertha Taylor of Washington, D.C. by Miles Rost at an unknown date. Bertha Taylor's sister, Ruth Taylor, gave the drawings to Dorothy Reiss in 1988-1989. They were donated to the National Anthropological Archives by Dorothy Reiss in 1997.

- This collection consists of five (5) color ink drawings, ranging in size from 11 x 8 inches to 14 x 11 inches, of American Indians by California artist Miles Rost. The drawings were made circa 1912-1915. Please note that the contents of the collection and the language and terminology used reflect the context and culture of the time of its creation. As an historical document, its contents may be at odds with contemporary views and terminology and considered offensive today. The information within this collection does not reflect the views of the Smithsonian Institution or National Anthropological Archives, but is available in its original form to facilitate research.
