- A collection of 37 notebooks containing notes in an unidentified shorthand system, dating from 1898 to 1902, with 8 notebooks bearing partial dates or undated. Most of the notebooks bear the name of G.B. Wells, a Smithsonian messenger from 1894-1903. Several of the notebooks also bear the phrase "O&F" for "Ordnance and Fortification" --Langley received grants for his aeronautical work from the U. S. Army's Board of Ordnance and Fortification. Notebooks have been numbered in pencil on inside front covers. No attempt was made to decipher the shorthand entries.
