- Scope and Contents
- Tracing by Hoffman, W.T. INV 08633900. Tracing evidently made at the Smithsonian by Walter Hoffman of the BAE, ca. 1872. According to Mallery, Army surgeon Dr. Washington West commissioned several cloth copies of the original hide count in the possession of The Swan. This tracing was made from a photograph of one of the cloth copies (not in the Smithsonian's possession). West obtained the cloth copies and an interpretation of the entries while he was stationed at the Cheyenne River Agency from November 1868 to May 1870.
