- Scope and Contents
- This series includes 163 photographs taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while conducting field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from January 30, 1988 to February 5, 1988. The research resulted in the publication, "We Are Becoming Art Minded: Afikpo Art", (African Arts 22:4, p.58-67, p.88, 1989). Also included are photographs taken from February-March 1988 of a memorial service for a prominent Bafodea leader. The huboga (second funeral) was conducted by Simon Ottenberg. Additionally, 55 of the photographs were taken when Ottenberg was invited to receive a chieftaincy title at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from October 11, 1992 to October 20, 1992.
