- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while conducting field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from January 30, 1988 to February 5, 1988.
- Original caption reads, "Ikoro gong in the open in Ndibe Village. The painting is of a very senior elder (Oni Ekara) in the background. The picture is of a structure for sitting as well, with cement benches on three sides. 'Built by Ndu Agu Age Grade, Ndibe, Afikpo 23/8/84.'."
