- Scope and Contents
- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while on his way to conduct field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from January 30, 1988 to February 5, 1988.
- Original caption reads, "Between January 30 and February 5, 1988, I revisited, with my wife Carol, the Igbo group of communities called Afikpo on the Cross River in southeastern Nigeria, .... This was preceded by a several days stay with Prof. Kay Moseley, who was teaching at the University of Port Harcourt to the south. Okrika, along the southeastern Nigerian coast, was reached by small boat from Port Harcourt in about an hour, and that it is a smal piece of land and town that was much involved in the slave trade." [Ottenberg field research notes, January 1988-February 1988].
