- Benue is a rich agricultural region, full of rivers, and could be called the breadbasket of Nigeria. Some crops grown there are potatoes, cassava, soya bean, guinea corn, flax, yams and beniseed. Cassava is one of the most important energy sources in the diet of people in the tropics. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Westinghouse Film and traveled to Africa from October 26, 1970 to end of March 1971.
