- Sung by Allan Mills, acc. by G. Lacombe, guitar. Alan Mills (1913-1977) forsook a career in journalism to become a prominent Canadian folksinger, actor, and the host of a folk music radio show for children. His singing may be found in over 20 Smithsonian Folkways recordings, some primarily for adults and others primarily for young people. On this album, Mr. Mills continues his fanciful musical survey of the animal kingdom, singing about everything from frogs to dogs, from birds to horses, and everything in between. The songs, originating in Canada, England, the United States and Scotland, were selected for their appeal to a youthful audience, and yet do not skirt serious subjects, including hunting, death and cruelty. Liner notes provide the background for each song and include the complete lyrics.
