General: Expulsion of ethnic Germans from Czechoslovakia at the behest of that country's government in exile was agreed upon at the Potsdam Conference in 1945. It was reaffirmed and further delineated by subsequent decrees of the Czechoslovak government. Roughly 1.6 million ethnic Germans were deported to the American zone of occupation, which is where Schwabisch Gmund was located.
