Fairfield -- Grant Garden
Object Details
- General
- An 18th century style formal cutting garden befits the 18th century style house on this half-acre property. The owners designed it themselves, after their children were grown and they decided to replace the vegetable garden in 1993. The layout of the garden is formal but softened with lady's mantle bordering the flower beds. Plant choices mix heirloom with modern hybrids that are suitable for the owner's floral design business. Many of the perennials in the garden are divisions or were started from seed, a pleasing pastime for the owners. These include roses, foxglove, lilies, sea holly, Japanese iris, self-sowing larkspur, and astilbe. The garden is protected by a 7-foot-tall deer fence. Persons associated with the garden's design: Nancy and Tom Grant.
