Los Angeles -- B. Fletcher Garden
Object Details
- General
- "A French Normandy style home designed by Wallace Neff on a multi-terraced site. The garden is situated on a south facing slope with a 180 degree view of Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean. The garden is inspired by gardens of Southern France. It is characterized by numerous flights of steps, terraces and viewing spots. These areas are planted with drought tolerant materials. The prominent areas include a palm garden, four rose gardens and a 'twilight garden' where the shrubs and trees have been planted so that their shadows are cast on the lawn in the evening light. Among the trees are many Italian Stone Pines, a huge Magnolia, a pink Melaneuca, a host of California Sycamores, a Tipuana Tipu tree, and a grove of Eucalyptus citriodora." The garden is noted for its distinctive "garden rooms" often revealing artistically placed sculpture, pottery, benches, and specimen plantings.
