Old Westbury -- Blum Garden, No. 2
Object Details
- General
- This was one of two gardens belonging to Robert Edward and Ethel Halsey Blum that were photographed by Molly Adams (the other is NY806). Its landscaping, also by Alice Recknagel Ireys, dates to the early 1960s, a later time period than its predecessor. The ranch style house was situated on a steeply sloping site, with its main level actually being the "second" floor. Native trees such as white birch and pine were included in the design along with traditional garden borders, ground cover plants, and a circular pool in the lawn area of the upper level. A trailing wisteria at the back of the house on the lower level provided an echo of the wisteria pergola at the Blums' previous home.
