Lynbrook -- Feil Garden
Object Details
- General
- This was the home garden of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Feil. Feil was a landscape designer and nurseryman in Lynbrook, New York, who was a regular supplier of plants to landscape architect Alice Recknagel Ireys. The half-acre garden included azaleas, hollies, rhododendrons, and evergreens, as well as specimen trees, shrubs, and ground cover plants. Photographs of the garden, a plant list, and a detailed garden plan were included in Ireys' 1967 book. Rhododendrons were a particular interest of Feil's and several varieties included in the plant list were ones that he entered in American Rhododendron Society competitions. Correspondence between Molly Adams and Alice Recknagel Ireys as well as one of the captions in Ireys' book suggests a probable shoot date of May 1965 for the images.
