Smithsonian Fiscal Year 2019 Federal Budget Totals $1 Billion
The final appropriation for the Smithsonian for fiscal year 2019, which began Oct. 1, 2018, is $1 billion, the same as the previous fiscal year and, like FY 2018, most of the increase is in the facilities capital account that totals $303.5 million. Of that amount, $210 million will be spent on the National Air and Space Museum’s multiyear revitalization project.
Salaries and Expenses
The S&E appropriation for FY 2019 is $740 million, an increase of $8.5 million above the previous year. The approved amount includes a funding increase of $3.5 million for fixed-costs (utilities, rent, software licenses and other operating expenses) and $5 million for security and facilities maintenance.
Facilities Capital
The Facilities Capital appropriation for renovations and repairs of some of the oldest and most visited museums is $303.5 million, including $286.5 million for renovations, including the National Air and Space Museum, the National Zoo and smaller projects at various locations.
