On view in this retrospective are 237 photographs by one of the most important figures in 20th-century photography. Early on, Weston created unconventional portraits. Despite acclaim, he grew dissatisfied with these works and experimented with a more realistic style. He tried to capture the "quintessence of the thing itself" by photographing objects extremely close-up. His work then shifted to recording the landscape of California—considered by many to be his finest work.

Organized by the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona.
