Celebrate the early '60s as the background for the opening of the National Museum of History and Technology, now the National Museum of American History. American culture of the era was steeped in dominating traditions and social norms, but saw broad-based countercultural and reactionary expressions in response to demands for individual and community freedoms, as well as to period arts, economics, foreign affairs, politics, and environmental and civil rights issues.
