The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture experienced technical difficulties Monday, Oct. 3, when releasing free timed passes for 2017. The online reservation system showed passes for October, November and December—which had already been distributed—instead of January, February and March. As a result, 64,000 passes have been issued for days between January and March that may not be convenient for the visitor. Therefore, pass holders have received a notification asking if they want to exchange passes or return them. The museum will re-release passes for January, February and March 2017 Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m. EDT.

Passes will be available at nmaahc.si.edu/passes or by calling ETIX Customer Support Center at (866) 297-4020. For information about timed passes, visit nmaahc.si.edu.

Passes became available for opening day and beyond Saturday, Aug. 27. By the time the museum’s dedication ceremony with President Barack Obama and other dignitaries and entertainers concluded, all passes—a grand total of 705,809—for all available timeslots from Sept. 24 through Dec. 31 had been distributed. Timed passes are required for entry to the museum and will continue to be required indefinitely.
