More Options for Visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture Starting Jan. 4

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture has welcomed nearly 750,000 visitors since opening in September 2016. The system for obtaining group passes has been improved, and non-commercial groups of 10 or more—including schools, nonprofits and families—can schedule their visits up to one year in advance by completing and submitting an online form requesting preferred dates and times at nmaahc.si.edu. Group reservations for schools and nonprofit organizations are no longer available by phone.

To obtain timed passes:

April 2017 Advance Timed Passes: Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, advance timed passes for individual and family visits in April 2017 will be available online at nmaahc.si.edu or by calling 866-297-4020.

May 2017 Advance Timed Passes: Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, advance timed passes for individual and family visits in May 2017 will be available online at nmaahc.si.edu or by calling 866-297-4020.

January–December 2017 Group Timed Passes: Complete the online form for families and nonprofit groups of 10 or more by visiting nmaahc.si.edu and provide your five preferred dates and times to visit the museum. You should immediately receive an email confirming the completion of your submission. You will be contacted within 7–10 business days to respond to the availability of the requested dates and times for your visit.

Online Same-Day Timed Passes: Visitors can obtain passes on the day of their planned visit starting at 6:30 a.m. on the museum’s website, nmaahc.si.edu/sameday. The museum will no longer distribute same-day, in-person passes at 9:15 a.m. daily.

Walk-Up Passes: A limited number of walk up passes will be available starting at 1 p.m. Monday–Friday. No walk-up passes will be available on weekends due to high visitation.
