The National Museum of Natural History will host the innovative performance, “Ocean,” June 3. This live dance performance blends original music, high-definition underwater film and interviews with leading ocean experts to discuss the challenges facing today’s oceans and their possible solutions. The performance takes place from 3 to 4 p.m. in the museum’s Baird Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

The presentation features a collaboration between SpectorDance and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, combining innovative original dance with more than 20 years of cutting-edge ocean science research. The program includes remarks by George Matsumoto of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. Viewers will explore changes in ocean chemistry, storm patterns, extinction of species and the food web all through this unique synergy between expression and information. The journey will unite both fact and feeling, aiming to inspire the audience to help save Earth’s greatest natural resource.

The presentation is part of the Changing Tides series, presented by the National Museum of Natural History in partnership with the Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence. Funding for Changing Tides is provided in part by the National Science Foundation.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History is located at 10th Street and Constitution Avenue N.W. in Washington, D.C. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with extended hours during the summer (until 7:30 p.m.). Admission is free.
