- Scope and Contents
- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while he was invited to receive a chieftaincy title at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from October 11, 1992 to October 20, 1992.
- Original caption reads, "Nkosi Ale body designs. These were made for me on the earth by two elderly Afikpo women who remember when they were actually used on the body. They are quite different, I think, in style from the usual Igbo uli or uri body designs. Bit as uli they were temporary, for females." [Ottenberg field research notes, October 1992].
