- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while conducting field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from January 30, 1988 to February 5, 1988.
- Original caption reads, "Various works of Oko Abagha. Large oil painting of an omume title holder at Afikpo. This is the highest Afikpo title a man can take, only taken after going through an elaborate series of previous titles. It is very expensive. The title-taker is dressed up as in taking the title.,or after taking it." [Ottenberg field research notes, January 1988-February 1988].
