- Scope and Contents
- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while conducting field research in northern Sierra Leone within Bafodea Town, the capital of Wara Wara Bafodea Chiefdom, while on an Art Historical and Anthropological Field Research from October of 1978 through July of 1980.
- Original title reads, "Kasongo Village. Preliminaries to boys' going to bush for initiation. Crowd with the boys coming from the dress bush. One recently "washed" girl with red head band with cowrie shells. Recently initiated boys, probably from Kamanda Village (Mandia) still wearing their special hats with cowrie shells that they wear when they come from the initiation bush, with his helpers in sparse cloth." [Ottenberg field research notes, Limba Slides and Photographs, October 1978-July 1980].
