- This football was used in a game between the Ontario Lakers and the Jelleff Boys Club in 1973, when the two Washington, D.C. youth clubs went head to head on the field. The Ontario Lakers was a sports team founded in the Adams Morgan neighborhood by Walter C. Pierce ‘because we were a bunch of kids who had nothing else to do.’ These Lakers quickly developed into a source of local pride, as they built their own fields and were active participants in their neighborhood, planting a garden in 1972 and starting a recycling campaign in 1982. As part of the Ontario Lakers team, young people could find constructive leadership in their community and transform the urban landscape, all whilst playing the sport they loved.
