Art historian Judith Wilson (b. 1952) has written prolifically about multiple facets of African American art, and more broadly, Black visual culture. Her voluminous records contain her research notes, audio–visual materials, and correspondence file, featuring an impressive roster of feminist and African American scholars and artists of the twentieth century. "The situation of women of color was not simply one of being doubly oppressed but one of constantly having to doubly define ourselves and doubly question existing descriptions of gender and culture," writes Wilson.
