Comitia Americana Medals John Stewart

Like Anthony Wayne and Francois Louis Teissedre de Fleury, John Stewart’s actions at the 1979 Assault on Stony Point earned him the honor of a Congressional medal. Stewart held command of the left advancing party, whose path included extremely difficult terrain, most notably the virtually vertical ascent toward the fort. While Stewart was already a household name in the Continental Army for his heroic actions under the command of General Sullivan and at the Assault on Staten Island, his extreme courage in the fact of battle and ability to execute orders without falter earned him his medal and Congressional accolades.
