- Indian Shade Coffee with Woodpile
- Description
- This Western Ghats coffee region, dominated by "robusta" coffee (as opposed to "arabica'), contains an incredibly diverse tree component used as shade over the coffee bushes. The periodic pruning of the shade trees yields firewood that brings in extra cash for the farmers--in addition to the coffee itself and black pepper. The pepper vines grow on the trunks of the shade trees.
