- Description
- In collaboration with the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) near Scottsdale, Arizona, Royce Manuel (Auk-Mierl Aw-Thum) coordinated an Artist Community Workshop for about 25 adults and youth during May and June 2014. Using the mesquite bow his great-grandfather gave to his father in 1926 as a model, and his research in the collections of the National Museum of the American Indian, Royce guided workshop participants in making their own mesquite bows. Royce's goal is encourage fathers to mentor their sons in the traditions and values of their community, in the hope that these things may continue for generations to come. Video produced by Debbie Manuel (Navajo) and directed by Frank Turfler, SRPMIC Video Production.
