- Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead Festival: Las Cafeteras
- Description
- As in years past, the Smithsonian Latino Center teamed up with the National Museum of the American Indian to celebrate the rich cultural heritage represented in the celebration of Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. The celebration concludes with this energetic performance by Las Cafeteras to a capacity crowd. Acclaimed alternative Mexican folk band brought the funky sounds of son jarocho and cumbia for a special Sunday concert. Las Cafeteras seamlessly fuse traditional Afro-Mexican music from Veracruz, Mexico with modern rhythms and lyrically rich storytelling to create a fresh Urban Folk sound from the streets of East Los Angeles. This performance was webcast and recorded in the Potomac Atrium of the National Museum of the American Indian on October 30, 2016.
