- Control of the air was recognised early in World War II as a decisive factor in modern warfare. Hence the popularity of this slogan, "Keep 'em Flying!"
- Sent by a serviceman under Free Franking from the U.S. Army Music School at Fort Myer, Virginia. It was postmarked Arlington, Virginia, December 10, 1942, Fort Myer Station.
- One sheet of letterhead (2002.2035.63.2) is associated with this cover. The cachet is a product of The Advertisers Press (Capitol Stamp Co.) of Des Moines, Iowa.
