- Description
- Baluster-shaped caster on a slender, flared and molded, circular pedestal base with screwed-on, thimble-shaped, perforated cover having a pawn-shaped finial, three rows of pierced backslants and one of backward S curves, and ridged band at rim. Incised lines at top of cover, base of tall cylindrical neck and lower half of body. No marks.
- Casters with shaped piercings (versus holes) are thought to have been used with sugar rather than pepper or spices.
