Ruled Surface by Richard P. Baker, Scroll of Higher Order
Object Details
- Richard P. Baker
- Description
- This ruled surface has a wooden frame painted black. The top and bottom are roughly in the shape of an H with curved sides. Two sides are like one another. The model is strung to represent one hyperboloid of one sheet in blue threads and another in yellow threads. The two hyperboloids do not intersect nor are they twisted. Their axes are perpendicular (but not in the same plane). The model has holes on the top and bottom pieces to hold the ends of a vertical line, but there is no vertical line. The model has no maker's marks, but the style is that of Richard P. Baker of the University of Iowa.
- Compare MA.211257.124 (another Baker model) and MA.304722.33. A Brill model with number 1985.0112.132 and a Baker model with number MA.211257.128 are similar but the ruled surfaces have been twisted and there is a vertical line at the center of both.
