- This Presidential Medal of Freedom was presented to Duke Ellington by President Richard Nixon on April 29, 1969. It is a red, white, and blue enamel gold-tone medal on a sash of blue ribbon with white edges. In original wooden box lined with fabric. The box also contains a smaller pin version of the medal and a small eagle pin.
