- Summary
- This is a spare emergency oxygen mask from the Skylab program. Astronauts aboard Skylab in 1973-1974 had various life support provisions for possible emergencies. In case of smoke or noxious gas inside the space station or a failure of the environmental control system, they could don emergency oxygen masks connected to a temporary oxygen supply. This would give them safe breathing air while they worked on the problem or put on pressure suits to escape in their parked spacecraft.
- NASA transferred it to the Smithsonian Institution in 1994.
