Elvis: Everyone's Favorite Reading Material
At the time of his death, Elvis was confronting accusations of addiction and self-destruction in a recently published "tell-all" called Elvis: What Happened? Over the next several years, many friends and relatives, including his ex-wife Priscilla, would author such works. By the late 1980s, Elvis came to occupy his own subgenre in American literature. From fashion to philosophy, Elvis's name has graced book covers for more than thirty years, and there is no apparent end in sight. The past decade has given rise to such works as E is for Elvis and Schmelvis: In Search of Elvis Presley's Jewish Roots.
