- From NMNH Exhibit Hall "Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt" label for this artifact, 2011: Mummified ibis; Species: Threskiornis aethiopicus, sacred ibis (probable); 332-30 B.C. Molten resin and oil burned through the feathers to the bone when embalmers prepared this ibis. The sand and gravel stuck to the narrow end may mean that they stood the mummy up on the ground to dry.
