- Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (1910-1995), an Indian-American astronomer known for his work on white dwarfs, was on University of Chicago faculty, 1936-1995; he was awarded Nobel Prize in physics, 1983. Lalitha Doraiswamy (1910-1999) married Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in 1936; she had been trained in India as a physicist and was an accomplished musician. This photo was taken at dedication of McDonald Observatory.
