Exhibition Label: Born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; The cool blonde star of Rear Window and High Society, Grace Kelly began acting on Broadway and in early television before pursuing a movie career in the early 1950s. She won a Best Actress Oscar in 1954 for The Country Girl, co-starring with Bing Crosby. In 1956 she retired from movies to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco in one of the most thoroughly covered news events of the 1950s. Princess Grace lived in Monaco until her death in an automobile accident—said to be at the spot on the Riviera where the picnic scene from the movie To Catch a Thief was filmed in 1954.
