- Look at all the angles and curves in the shape in this image. The branch of mathematics called geometry is dedicated to understanding points, lines, surfaces, and solidsand how they relate to one another. Geometry dates back to 3,000 BC in ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptians used geometry in lots of ways! They surveyed land and studied astronomy.. And in 2,900 BC, they used geometry to construct the Great Pyramids of Giza: four triangular faces and a square base. All of that from a few lines and angles!
