- Hinduism is the oldest religion in the entire world! It is a religion that is widely spread across the world and is one that has very special customs. One of those defining customs is the importance of the cow. In Hinduism, the cow is not worshipped, but is thought to be a sacred animal. Hindu people hold cows in high importance because of their gentle nature and agricultural uses. Cows are seen as caretakers for the people because they provide dairy products, dung for fertilizer, and labor in the fields. The Hindu goddess that represents the Earth, Bhoomi, is often depicted as a cow. Because of the revered nature of the cow, Hindu people do not eat beef, as this demonstrates their values of non-injury.
