- From card: "Net Jacket, Southeast Asia? Southern China? Bast fiber; twisted looping. Chinese characters woven into jacket. Translated by Chang-su Houchins, 4/29/88. Net jacket, not Japanese; more likely Chinese (Southern). -CSH. Loan: Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, 6/24/88, loan returned Feb 8, 1990." Translation is glued onto back of T # card: Front of jacket - on left characters jin and yu - jinyu (wealth) and on right characters su and tang - sutang (tranquil home). Back of jacket - on left characters shou and juan - shoujuan (long life); on right characters fu and lu - fulu (blessings; good fortune) and at bottom, character xi (joy; double joy). Smithsonian Photographic Services black and white negative numbers 88-8341 (front) and 88-8342 (back).
