Object Details
- Summary
- This spare seat back cover for Space Shuttle crew seats was made for use in a crew training simulator or a flight vehicle. The cover also includes a cover for the padded headrest. Astronauts found that such covers made the high-backed metal seats more comfortable. A notation LWS on the item indicates that this cover was designed for the Light Weight Seats that replaced the heavier original seats.
- The museum acquired two bare Shuttle crew seats from NASA in 2002, and later acquired some seat covers to permit a more realistic display.
