- This baseball was used in a game played by the Ontario Lakers against the D.C. Rec West All Stars on July 18, 1974 and is signed by the players and coaches. The Ontario Lakers was a youth sports team founded in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. by Walter C. Pierce ‘because we were a bunch of kids who had nothing else to do.’ These Lakers quickly developed into a source of local pride, as they built their own fields and were active participants in their neighborhood, planting a garden in 1972 and starting a recycling campaign in 1982. As part of the Ontario Lakers team, young people could find constructive leadership in their community and transform the urban landscape, all whilst playing the sport they loved.
