- Scope and Contents note
- The Russell E. Train personal papers that reside with the Train Africana collection primarily document Train's interest in Africa and the development of his collection. Materials cover 1959 to 2004. Train selected and sent portions of the personal papers after the majority of the collection was acquired by the Joseph F. Cullman 3rd Library. These materials often include a personal note from Train, addressed to the Special collections librarian, explaining why the material was to be added to the collection. The papers have been organized into four groupings: African Safari journals; papers relating to Train's relationships, activities relating to Africa, and his work with the World Wildlife Federation; papers related to Train safaris (1956, 1958, and 1961); as well as papers and correspondence detailing collection development and the creation of the catalog.
